MNF Week 12

I really enjoy watching Brett Favre play. I'm going to miss him when he retires. Brett plays fine, but he doesn't have enough talent around him to win. The defense played better than they have been, but Alexander is too talented.

The big news of the night was the release of Mike Vanderjagt from Dallas. (I bet Peyton Manning is snickering. You remember Vanderjagt running his mouth several years ago and Manning's remarks at the Pro Bowl.) I'm impressed with Parcells attitude - if you can't perform, you're out. Says a lot about TO still being there.

Story Up at Flashshot Daily Genre Flash Fiction

My story "Let There Be Peace on Earth" is up at Flashshot Daily Genre Flash Fiction. You can read it at http://www.gwthomas.org/dailyflashshot.htm.

NFL Week 12

What happened to the Panthers? They looked terrible against the Redskins.

I'm not surprised the Bears lost to the Patriots. Rex Grossman isn't a good enough QB to lead them to the Super Bowl. Lovie needs to draft one next year.

The Eagles are nothing without McNabb. Westbrook is the only player worth a darn on offense now and he can't be expected to carry the team. I think Reid should play Feely at QB.

Poem in Escaping Elsewhere

My poem "Cover Girl" is in the latest issue of Escaping Elsewhere. You can buy a copy at http://www.escaping-elsewhere.com.

Thanksgiving NFL

The Lions remind me of the old Bengals - fans sitting in the stands with bags over their heads. The Lions just don't have the personnel to win games. Maybe they need a new coach like the Bengals to turn them around.

The Bucs' defense is too old. A huge mistake they made was getting rid of John Lynch.

The Cowboys looked great yesterday. I think at this rate they'll be in the playoffs.

FOX did halftime entertainment right by getting Carrie Underwood and also having Kelly Clarkson singing the national anthem. CBS dropped the ball - their halftime singer was an old guy I can't even remember.

I have no comment on the late game because I don't get NFL network. I wish Time Warner carried it.

Happy Thanksgiving

I want to wish all my American readers a Happy Thanksgiving. I'm thankful for my family.

MNF Week 11

The game was worth watching for the dirt Ronde Barber dished about his twin. Tiki does have something in the works for after the season. I also didn't know he ditched engineering in college to keep his GPA up. That was the bright spot in the booth. I wish Ronde would replace Tony like Kornheiser quipped - the smartest remark he made all year.

The Giants really need Strahan back. I think they could have won with him. Garrard can dream on about replacing Leftwitch. You have to make at least 60% of your completions to be a starter in the league and David doesn't cut it. He can run, but he's no Michael Vick.

NFL Week 11

The Eagles' season is officially over with McNabb out for the rest of the season. He is the team.

The Cowboys are on the rise. Jerry Jones is eating crow this Thanksgiving with Parcells making the now right call to play Romo.

The Colts have great seasons, but can't win the Super Bowl. I don't think they can win it this year, either.

MNF Week 10

Two poor teams slugging it out. I don't know what happened to the Panthers. They have so much talent. The Bucs problem is the inexperienced QB and the decimation of the defense - they shouldn't have gotten rid of John Lynch.

The ESPN booth is now having different people join them in the booth each week. I think it's to blind viewers on how bad the three of them are, hoping that being starstruck with the newbie is enough. It's not working.

NFL Week 10

That was a great game between the Chargers and Bengals. Too bad the Bengals couldn't pull out the win. I think their playoff hopes are gone.

Bill Cowher has the Steelers playing well again. I thought they'd lose that game. I don't know if the Steelers can save their season or not. Reggie Bush is still having growing pains.

The Giants are so decimated by injuries that I don't know if they'll be in the playoffs. I wish Tiki wasn't going to retire at the end of the year. I understand why he's doing it, though. Last year's MNF segment on Jerome Bettis hobbling down the stairs would frighten anyone. I guess Tiki wants to get out before he gets that bad.

Son of Dracula

This weedend I saw the movie Son of Dracula (1943) that I taped from AMC's Monsterfest. I noticed that one of the actors was Frank Craven. I wonder if he's any relation to Wes Craven. It was a good movie, as most of the old ones generally are. I recommend it.

After the Election

This country is in the afterglow of the election, on honeymoon, so to speak. Sooner or later the problems will arise. But will anything actually be done?

On the Today Show, Dr. Nancy Snyderman said the current generation will have a shorter lifespan than their parents. She gave the reasons as lack of exercise and junk food. I think this is just a whitewash to hide the real reason - lack of medical care. You see, after WWII companies offered great health plans that paid employees medical expenses. For those not working, Welfare picked up the tab. Today Welfare is good for only five years and companies are pushing health costs onto employees whose salaries have dropped drastically. This country is gradually going back to the healthcare of the 1940s and earlier - pay up or die. No money, no medical care. Back then doctors would trade goods for services, but that can't happen today due to the threat of lawsuits.

Well, you say, just go on disability. That looks good on paper, except that I don't think that doctors are obligated to take those green cards. In my town I believe there are about two dentists who will treat poor people. One is because his staff consists of his mother. The government doesn't reimburse well for the cards, or so I've heard.

The Democrats have a big problem. Can they fix this? Only time will tell. All we can do is don't get poor.

Cambridge Who's Who

I was selected for inclusion in the 2006/2007 Cambridge Who's Who Among Professional Women in Writing and Publishing "Honors Edition".

MNF Week 9

The Raiders need a new quarterback, stat. The defense kept them in the game, but they had no offense. Not even Randy Moss could save them.

I'm waiting to see if Broadway complains about those awards Kornheiser gave out. Not only were they stupid, but infringed on the name of the theater Tony Awards. Another bad football idea from ESPN this year.

NFL Week 9

The Bears need to draft a quarterback next year. Grossman is too inconsistant to be a starter. They never should have lost to the Dolphins. Championship teams have reliable quarterbacks like Tom Brady, who, although having a lot of interceptions last night, had them against an excellent team.

I agree with Bettis. The Steelers' season is over. I wonder if Cowher will retire after this year now. The NBC pregame is, in my opinion, the best one this year. They're very entertaining. The one at FOX is now second. They seem to have lost chemistry after James Brown left.
